What is CARI? Communities Against Regional Interconnect (CARI) is a non-profit consortium led by eight county governments (including Sullivan County) that would be severely harmed by the NYRI project. CARI has engaged a superbly qualified Albany law firm, Gilberti, Stinziano and Heinz, to lead the legal fight against NYRI before the New York Public Service Commission, the federal Department of Energy and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The Gilberti firm has been highly effective in challenging NYRIÕs attempt to bulldoze its way through the communities along its proposed route, but the battle is far from over, and the legal effort costs a lot of money. Financed in part by state and county funds, CARI needs private support as well to pursue its opposition to NYRI. Donations to CARI may be directed through CARIÕs designated fiscal agent, Mohawk Valley EDGE (Economic Development Growth Enterprises Corp.), which is a private, non-profit organization that works to promote economic development in Oneida and Herkimer Counties, two of the upstate counties that are part of CARI.
