Call your State Legislators RIGHT NOW, and urge them to pass Bill S.8349A and Companion Bill 11977-A.
This legislation will be up for a vote today or tomorrow. So we need to make these calls immediately!
Why:
NYRI is planning to exercise the right of eminent domain (the right to seize private property) over our land and homes. Our New York State legislators are pushing to remove this power from NYRI at the state level by introducing bills that will disallow transportation companies from using eminent domain. (NYRI is registered as a transportation company. 1 ) These bills were introduced by Senator Bonacic and Assemblymembers Lupardo, Magee, Gunther, Destito, Cahill, Crouch, Finch.
How:
Call Sheldon Silver and Helen Weinstein at the New York State Assembly immediately, say that you are a voter, and urge them to pass Companion Bill 11977-A.
Sheldon Silver, Speaker, New York State Assembly
District office: 212-312-1420
Albany office: 518-455-3791
Helen Weinstein, Chair, Judiciary Committee
District office: 718-648-4700
Albany office: 518-455-5462
Bill S.8349A is sitting with the rules committee, chaired by Senator Bruno. So you can also contact Senator Bruno and urge him to move forward with the bill.
Senator Joseph L. Bruno, Chair, Rules Committee
District office: 518-583-1001
Albany office: 518-455-3191
You can also contact your local legislators and voice your support for the initiative.
