Fax Clinton today: Get her to tell the DOE that NIETC designation is unwarranted!
Why
Yes, we know. You've already written to Clinton. Possibly several times. But this is important. In 3 weeks, the DOE will designate National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors (NIETCs) throughout the country. If our area gets NIETC designation, NYRI can overstep the state application process after 1 year and appeal directly to the federal government for approval. It's EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that we fight this designation because, if the approval process is turned over to the federal government, our fates will be determined by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), a small agency made up of Bush appointees whose backgrounds are, yep, in the energy business!
How
Thanks to public pressure, Clinton has asked the DOE not to give NYRI NIETC designation due to the economic and environmental devastation the project would cause 1 . We're asking her to elaborate and tell the DOE why New York State's energy needs are not "in crisis" or "in the national interest." Click here to personalize the letter, then fax or mail it today.
Fight the power,
StopNYRI.com: What you can do today.
P.S. This action is in coordination with citizen groups up and down the line. To have the greatest impact, we must all act today.
