Why Just one week from now, the Department of Energy (DOE) will designate National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors (NIETCs) throughout the country. If our area gets NIETC designation, NYRI can overstep the state application process after 1 year and appeal directly to the federal government for approval. It's EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that we fight this designation because, if the approval process is turned over to the federal government, our fates will be determined by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), a small agency made up of non-elected officials whose backgrounds are, yep, in the energy business!
